Samantha and I took a motorcycle ride out to Roche Harbor today, April 29, and stopped by to visit the Marine Fun Center provided by San Juan Safaris.  Picture from left to right, Bill, Brian and Nick.

San Juan Safaris put on really great whale watching boat trips - leaving from Roche Harbor and Friday Harbor as well as kayaking in the north island area.

View Article  Neil Young and the Grateful Dead
I was at this concert in the 1991.  Bill Graham, the concert promoter was killed in a helicopter accident in November or December 1991.  A free concert was held at the Polo Grounds in Golden Gate Park in San Francisco, some of the best bands from the 60's, 70's and 80' that had a bay area connection performed.

I saw some great performances.  The Grateful Dead jamming, they also backed up Dan Fogerty - who was band less.  This video is of Neil Young and the Grateful Dead, who jammed together for over an hour.

Totally cool.

The fun part of this story was that my son, Ammon, had just turned 11 and he didn't want to be there and worked really hard not to hear the music.  He just laid down, as only a 11 year who didn't want to be somewhere could.  I would say, "Ammon, it's Neil Young!"  Nothing.  It was fun.

Last summer, Ammon and I, attended a Crosy, Stills, Nash and Young concert.  It was cool.  See the video clip, "Tree Top Flier" below - we were there!

I could be a rambler from the seven dialsI don't pay taxes 'cause I never file
I don't do business that don't make me smile
I love my aeroplane 'cause she's got style
I'm a treetop flyerBorn survivor
I will fly any cargo you can pay to run
these bush league pilots just can't get the job done
Got to fly down into the canyons, never see the sun
There's no such thing as an easy run
For a treetop flierBorn survivor
I'm flyin' low, I'm in high demand
Fly fifteen feet off the Rio Grande
Blow the mesquite right up off the sand
Seldom seen, especially when I land
I'm a treetop flier
Born SurvivorPeople ask me, "Where'd you learn to fly that way?"
Over in Vietnam, chasin' NVA
The government taught me, and they taught me right,
Stay under the treeline, and you might come out alright
I'm a treetop flierBorn survivor
Comin' home, I'm runnin' low and fast
promised my woman this one's gonna be my last
Get the ship down, and I tie her fast
then some old boy walks up, says "Son, you wanna make some fast cash?"
I'm a treetop flyer
There's things I am and there's things I'm not
I am a smuggler and I could get shot
But I gonna die, I ain't goin' to get caught,
'Cause I'm a flyin' fool and my aeroplane is just too hot
I'm a treetop flier
Born survivor

View Article  Retro 51 Pens
Ok, I have a thing for pens, which goes back to my days in elementary school when I received my first fountain pen.  Like Moleskines, I find pens to be a fine hobby to participate in and enjoy.

Currently I am using these three pens:

The Retro 51 Fountain Pen                  The Retro 51 Tornado in Red            The Retro 51 Tornado in Green

Good quality pens for a very fair price.  Nice balance and fun to hold.

Yesterday I received my very first digital camera from www.buydig.com  I purchased a Olympus Stylus 740 with 7.1 megapixel and a 5X Optical Zoom.  Now this all-weather camera has been really fun in learning all the cool things it can do.  I have wanted a digital camera for some time now and will be using it for my blog postings.

As an example this is a close-up of my coffee cup.  Pretty cool.  I like the orange rings.

With this new camera you, my readers, will have a optical view into my ramblings as well as printed words.

My good friend, Stan the Man, is having his Grand Opening this week at his new wine store, Blazenly Lucid Wines, at 80 Nichols Street in the happening area of Friday Harbor.  Having his own wine store has been a dream of Stan's for a long time.  I am happy for him.

A happy customer selecting from Blazenly Lucid's fine wines.  Notice the San Juan Vineyard wines on the left.  Locally made here on San Juan Island.

Stan carries locally baked rolls and bread from John, owner/chef/baker at 120 Nicholas Street, a great, romantic little restaurant.

Well, here is where I spend most of my week days.  From this little command center all sorts of great ideas spring forth.  Please note the new metal wall covering that Mike Greene and I installed a few weeks ago.  Very Retro and very Cool.

I have all the elements a successful business man needs.  I have my chair, a nice place for my HP nc6400 computer.  A well spaced area for my pens and notebooks and a wide arrange of drinking devices.  Stereo speakers for my listening pleasure.  A great place to spend the day.

I have a couple of posts that talk about my love for the Moleskine Notebooks.  I think they are just the item.

On the left is my yearly soft cover calender with the week on the left hand side and note taking space on the right hand side.  I have a Dude Abide sticker to help identify it as my calender.  The sticker comes http://www.lebowskifest.com.  This wonderful sites has all kinds of cool things from The Big Lebowski movie, which is my favorite all time movie.

To the right of the Abide book is my pocket ruled notebook where I keep a hand written record of thoughts and notes.  Either one of them will be with me at all times.  Don't want to forget something.

View Article  Christmas is Over and the New Year is Upon Us
In a couple of days the New Year will be here.  Let's see, where to begin.  Christmas, minus the new BMW motorcycle, was very nice and quite for us - which I was grateful for.  This past month our family has been through some trials and having a peaceful Christmas was much appreciated.

Santa was really good to us.  I have a new green Retro 51 Tornado (visit http://www.retro51.com), socks, a Moleskine Notebooks and address book, a couple of flash lights and a Bocce Ball set (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bocce).  I am a very lucky guy!  And grateful.

Now for the New Year:  2007.

I don't have any predications that I feel so great about to make.  I think life here in the islands will be a combination of busyness and easiness.  Running wise I think I am going to run a half marathon in January, a 25K trail run in February, the Chuckanut 50K in March, either the half or full marathon at the Whidbey Island event in April.  May I might run either the half or full marathon up in Vancouver, B.C. Canada.  June is when I put on our local marathon, but maybe I could get over to Port Angeles and run there in mid-June.  The rest of the year is open.

I see myself staying as General Manager of Rock Island Technology Solutions.  I enjoy the work and I enjoy the people and we are doing some pretty cool things for the community and for our customers.

Somewhere in all this I would like to travel with Samantha on the motorcycle and maybe do a trip or two of camping.  Maybe another trip to Canada would be in order.

I hope to have some time with my whole family at the same time - which is rare.  One sister back east, one sister in southern Wyoming and one sister in northern Wyoming.  My Dad and Ann in northern Wyoming, plus Ammon and Angela in Seattle along with the local clan in Friday Harbor.  This wide open space between us all makes getting together a tad difficult.  This could be the year we all can get together.

Other than those listing above, I hope 2007 is a good and positive year for us here and those afar.  Here is wishing you all a Happy New Year.
View Article  Merry Christmas
Well, here it is Christmas Day.  Our house is quite as everyone is still sleeping.

We have a low-key day planned.  I am going for a run in a few minutes, then a gift exchange - though I don't see any boxes big enough to hold a new BMW motorcycle, but I am ok with that.  Then a casual day of cooking a turkey and preparing for a late afternoon dinner.

I hope everyone has a nice day and pause to remember what the day is about.

Merry Christmas,

Clark
