Here is my Plan of Action for losing 50 lbs of ugly fat and no; cutting off my head is not what I had in mind. It's an old joke from when I was a kid.
Anyway. Part of my frustration with weight loss is all the available information of how to lose weight. From Atkins to Weight Watchers our society is bombarded with different types of thinking on how to lose weight. Some advertisers tell us we can lose weight without making any changes to what or how we eat. The no effort diets. Eat what you want and lose weight is what they say. I can tell you from my experience that this way of losing weight does not work. I have eaten what I have wanted to and I didn't lose the weight.
From my college days where I studied Exercise Physiology I learned that the body burns calories during activities and in the process of just living. If one eats more calories than what one burns they gain weight. Losing weight is by burning more calories than what is taken in. Like I said in my last posting, simple, right?
I did some research on the Mayo Clinic web site, www.mayoclinic.com, and found the information on weight loss to be refreshing. I learned that, for me, to lose weight I would need to eat 1400 calories in a day and their food pyramid, www.mayoclinic.com/health/weight-loss/NU00595, showed me what areas of food I need to eat.
Sweets: 75 cals
Fats: 3 servings
Protein: 4 servings
Carbohydrates: 5 servings
Fruits: 4+ servings/Veggies 4+ servings

I, by keeping a food journal, have realized that I am not eating enough fruits and veggies. I also came to terms with my candy eating, which has been a big issue for me. I really do enjoy chocolate. Yum. It's a food staple isn't it?
The other point made was the need to exercise, moderately, for 30 to 60 minutes a day. I figure my running, which I am averaging 4.5 to 5.0 hours a week, would work for me. From monitoring my heart rate with a monitor while running I have learned that I burn close to 1,000 calories an hour at an easy pace. I also will continue to walk to and from work, which Skye the Wonder Dog enjoys.
